Description

This non-motorized trip is for men looking for the ultimate whitewater adventure, paddling 89 miles of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon from Lee's Ferry to Pipe Creek. This trip begins in Flagstaff and ends with a 7.5 mile hike up the Bright Angel Trail ending up at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Participants will be paddling for most of the length of the trip and everyone is expected to pull their own weight. The paddle rafts foster great camaraderie as the paddlers maneuver the raft together. All participants must be in excellent physical condition. Previous rafting experience is not required, but highly encouraged. Beyond the rafting portion of your trip, this adventure includes beautiful back country camping and some of the most incredible side hike opportunities in the Grand Canyon. It is also about the awe inspiring night skies, companionship among the guides and other participants, and the Grand Canyon herself. It is an expedition style trip and we hope you are along for the experience of a lifetime.

Itinerary

Plan to attend our 7:00 p.m. orientation meeting the evening before your trip departs. Bright and early on the morning of your trip, we will pick you up by bus and take you 2.5 hours up to Lee's Ferry. At Lee's Ferry you will meet your boat crew and begin your trip. On the morning of the last day, you will arrive at Pipe Creek generally between 7-9 a.m. Pipe Creek is located at the bottom of the Bright Angel Trail. You will repack your personal gear from our dry bags into your own backpack and begin the 7.5 mile ascent up the Bright Angel Trail.

When you reach the top of the trail you will be in the Grand Canyon Village at the South Rim. From there you have a couple of options. You may arrange for hotel accommodations (with your Reservation Request Form or on your own) or catch a late afternoon van shuttle. Not knowing how long their hike out of the canyon will take, most of our customers choose to stay at the South Rim the evening of their hike out. AzRA Discovery does not provide a shuttle back to Flagstaff. However, there are shuttle options available to get from the South Rim back to Flagstaff.

What We’re Providing / What to Bring

We supply you with waterproof dry bags, sleeping bag and liner, sleeping pad, tarp, tent, mug, Colorado River Guide Book, life jacket and eating utensils. We also supply all of your food, snacks & drinks including coffee, tea, juice, water and Gatorade. Additional charges not included in your fare are pre- and post-trip hotel accommodations, any additional beverages that you would like beyond what we provide and gratuities that you might feel inclined to give your guides.

We will provide you with a complete trip packet of information that will include all the pre and post trip logistics, frequently asked questions, an equipment list with recommended items to bring, area map and more pre-trip information that will assist you with planning your trip.

Weather

Daytime temperatures are usually in the mid to upper 90's and often breaking 100º; however, the humidity is low and there is a natural cooling effect while on the river. Evening temps drop into the mid to lower 70's. Afternoon thunder showers are most likely July through mid-September.
