Description

The Middle Fork of the Salmon River is one of the premier recreational rafting and kayaking rivers in the world. It boasts one hundred miles of whitewater with over three hundred rapids, descending 3000 feet through the remote River of No Return Wilderness. Near the Sawtooth Mountains of Central Idaho, the Salmon River was one of the first to be designated a National Wild and Scenic River. Granite gorges and sheer cliffs alternate with rolling sage-covered hills sprinkled with natural hot springs. Crystal clear waters support a blue-ribbon fishery of native trout. We'll travel through the Impassable Canyon, where the rugged terrain means the only way out is through the class III-IV rapids. Big drops flanked by rock walls climax a week to remember. In addition to viewing wild game, we’ll see evidence of the few people who dared to call this untamed area home, such as the Sheepeater Indians and a few hardy gold miners and hermits.

Itinerary

Arrive in Boise anytime on July 20. We'll meet up at a hotel that night for a meet and greet. The next morning a small plane will fly us to the launch site on the river. We'll spend the next 6 days rafting the river. On the afternoon of July 26 we'll fly back to Boise. Schedule your flight home for anytime on July 27.

What To Bring

Sleeping bag (warm to 32 degrees), sleeping pad, headlamp, warm clothing, shoes that can get wet (like Tevas) and tennis shoes for camp. A complete list of clothing will be sent out closer to the start date. To accommodate space and weight constraints, your baggage must be limited to 40 lbs./person and be packed into duffel bags or soft packs; no suitcases, external frame packs, or wheeled luggage.

Flights to/from Boise between rafting sites, professional guiding, gourmet meals, beverages (including beer and wine), tents, dry bags, wet suits, river equipment, inflatable kayaks and, for experienced paddlers, the use of hardshell kayaks.
